OSHA Fire Cases
Recent news headlines have told of fires and explosions in the oil patch. Some of these have caused serious injuries and deaths. What lessons can you learn to help prevent fires and explosions that can kill or seriously injury your employees?
If you have tanks in your business, work around tanks or assign employees to work near locations that have tanks, you should attend. The information we will cover will apply to business owners, oil lease operators, contractors who work around tanks and supervisors who have employees that work near tanks.
In this seminar we will review the fire and explosion cases OSHA region VIII has recently investigated. In addition, we will review a U.S. Chemical Safety Board case study of a tank explosion that is very similar to cases that have occurred in Colorado. Finally, we will review loss data for Colorado employers.
Megan Meagher, OSHA Compliance Specialist, will lead the discussion on the Region VIII case studies.
Dan Klimek, Loss Control & Safety Manager for Sisk, will lead the discussion on Colorado losses.
Topics to be covered include:
- Understand the causes of oil field tank fires
- General overview of the properties of flammable vapor and the hazards
- Considerations when training employees
- Safety policies/procedures that should be in place
- Legal / liability considerations of these incidents
